5 Sweet Ideas to Celebrate Valentine’s Day with Your Little One
Love and affection are vital for your children, but Valentine’s Day gives us the opportunity to give even more love and treat them to a special date. While they have the fun activities at school, it’s important for parents to teach their little ones that love comes from friends and family as well. We all show appreciation and gratitude in different ways. Gifts aren’t as important as showing our children how to express their love. Here are a few ideas to show your little one LOVE during Valentine’s Day:
1. Spend time with them.
Quality time is so important! Having a movie night, reading, or playing outside are simple ways to show your little one how much you love them. I’m sure they appreciate your sole attention on daily basis but on this day it may be extra special.
2. Bake or decorate cookies
Although it may be a huge mess, little one’s love learning from their parents. Baking cookies or a cake can be a loving experience. If you’re not open to baking anything, stores sell ready-made cookies with decorating tools. That way you can avoid the mess and have a decorating party with your kids
3. Words of Affirmation
We all love having our feelings validated especially on a special day like Valentine’s Day. Simply saying “I love you” will make your little one feel loved and adored. Words carry a heavier meaning than silent actions. Sometimes everyone needs to hear that they’re doing a good job or that you’re proud. Love can be expressed in only a few words.
4. Create a love for reading
Sitting down and enjoying story time with your children is a crucial part during their routine. On Valentine’s Day it can be a perfect time to read about different forms of love, such as how we express love towards our grandparents, pets, or friends. Little ones can learn from these types of stories and be able to implement those lessons in everyday life.
4. Family (or Just You Two!) Date Night
Put on your Sunday best and hit the town! Grab some tickets to a local theatrical production or art exhibit. Spending time with each child individually can help them feel appreciated. Plan an event based on their interests and make them feel special.
While we show love to our children every day, Valentine’s Day has been curated for couples in the past years. However, this day is a representation of love in various forms. Whether it be love from parents, grandparents, friends or family, little ones need to know that it can be found in the world around them.
